Location, location, location...

The house is situated in the Upper Delaware River region, in the private (but ungated) community of Walker Lake, Shohola Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvanians and hunters call this the Poconos. Upscale New Yorkers with weekend places here call it the Upper Delaware Highlands. Some call it, tongue-in-cheek, Pocono Hampton. In the winter, when the leaves are off the trees, you can see a panorama of 'the Catskills' across the river valley. The Delaware River is 2 miles away from the house (as the crow flies), but many more miles on foot and 10 minutes by car -- because you have to go the long way round. This is the mountains. From here to there is not always what it seems.

Walker Lake is one of the most desirable lake communities in the area with a great balance of amenities and informality and diversity. The house comes with full community and lake rights (beaches, boat launch and storage for one boat, tennis court, etc). But is as far from the lake as you can get and still be in the community, on the last developed road going down towards the river.

The house is on 2.1 acres, and there is only one other house on the road. There is nothing between us and the river except hunt clubs, large plots of privately-owned land, and lots of critters. If you can't stand critters, this is not the right place for you.

Here is a link to a zoomed-in map of where it is. Switch to satellite view to see how at the edge of wilderness it is, or zoom out to explore where it is in relation to New York City and Philadelphia and other areas.

When you turn off of Birch onto Pawnee Road, you will feel that you have left it all behind and arrived at the edge of nowhere.
